making a difference to Redruth

Fred Harris Awards 2016

Redruth Charity Trust has just completed its Annual Presentations to Primary Schools in honour of Fred Harris who was a Trustee for 47 years.

The Scheme started in 2005 with 3 schools and has grown to include all 10 in the Redruth area. Each School receives £250 to purchase new books for their libraries. They also nominate a year 6 pupil for Making a Difference to the School and Community who receives a framed certificate and £55 of WH Smiths vouchers.

Presentation were made by Trust Chairman Chris Hailey and Trustee Alan Jewell who were entertained at some Schools with song and dance routines and some pictures of the Schools year.

Chris Hailey was impressed with the new facilities at Illogan and Curnow School on their new shared site and said that it was good to see such a positive spirit from the pupils at our Schools. The Community is built around Schools and the next generation is what we need to plan our efforts around.

Rob Adams, Head teacher at Pennoweth, said it was good to maintain links with the Community and welcomed the Trusts support while Nicola Finn, Head teacher Portreath, said that books were key to help grow confidence in reading and writing which all pupils need.

The Trusts aim is to Make a Difference and has invested £24,000  in the scheme.
